Benjamin Alard won the 2004 Bruges International Harpsichord Competition, awarded the 1st Prize and the Audience Award. His first CD, recorded in 2006, was favorably received by Goldberg, Crescendo, Le Monde de la Musique, Diapason, Classica Répertoire, and more. Transcription, long considered secondary to composition or even discredited as damaging the “purity” of a work, is now seen as a major means for the circulation of ideas and styles in the baroque period.
